at war

The old Saint-Martin school:

Auxiliary Hospital n°202.

After the declaration of war, the first decisions concerned the organisation of health services. On top of the two principle military hospitals – hôpital Saint-Laurent and hôpital de la Charité – the army created complementary hospitals.

They were installed in requisitioned buildings and rented by the army (see Collège Diderot or Couvent des Dominicaines). Other associations opened private hospitals. This was the case of the old Saint-Martin school (n°17, rue Gambetta) where the auxiliary hospital n°202 was organised by the Red Cross.
